Plan ahead, expect traffic delays (use Google Maps and Waze), be patient, and consider carpooling or biking. We also strongly advise using the provided event shuttles.
Event shuttles will be provided to Google I/O attendees at no charge from all Google-recommended hotels and with select service from San Francisco and other locations along the Peninsula. You must show your Google I/O confirmation email or conference badge to board all Google I/O event shuttles.
Google I/O event shuttles will service the hubs listed below for attendees making connections with public transportation services. Please check the event shuttle schedule for details.
BART: Millbrae BART Station
Caltrain: Mountain View Caltrain Station
In addition to the Google I/O event shuttles, you may consider using MVgo, a service of the Mountain View Transportation Management Association, to get to and from the Mountain View Caltrain Station, downtown Mountain View, and Crittenden stop, which is about half a mile from Shoreline Amphitheatre.
Each pick-up location will have ADA accessible vehicles. Please indicate on your registration form if you have any ADA or special assistance requirements and the planning team will follow up with you directly.
Public transportation to the area is accessible via:
Caltrain: Regional rail system
VTA: Light rail system servicing the South Bay
BART: Bay Area Rapid Transit
Public transit does not go directly to Google I/O. Stay tuned over the coming weeks for exact transportation locations serviced by Google I/O event shuttles.
Bike parking will be available at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Recommended bike routes will be available in the coming weeks.
Alternatively, the Bay Area Bike Share program provides 24/7 access to shared bicycles in five service areas across the Peninsula. The closest location to Shoreline Amphitheatre is at 228 Charleston Road, Mountain View, CA 94043. More information regarding membership and pricing is available via the Bay Area Bike Share website.
Parking is very limited and available only in the Google I/O designated lots located across from Shoreline Amphitheater along Shoreline Boulevard next to the fire station. This is also the only valid passenger pick-up and drop-off location.
There is no event parking along Amphitheater Parkway or Charleston Road. If you plan to drive, we recommend carpooling with other attendees due to limited parking availability at the venue. Preferred parking spaces will be available for cars containing 2 or more people.
Download the Uber app from Google Play or the App Store to use uberPOOL to share a ride with another rider along the same route for a cheaper fare.
Attendees may enter the code GOOGLEIO16 to receive up to $10 off uberPOOL rides. Trips must begin or end at Shoreline Amphitheatre. This code is valid from May 18-20, limit 2 rides per day. Please note there is limited availability.

SettingsThe 2016 developer festival will be held from May 18 – 20 at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.
To stay up to date on the latest information on sessions, speakers, and activities, be sure to visit the Google I/O 2016 website, the Google Developers Blog, and follow us on Google+ and Twitter. You can also follow and join the social conversation about Google I/O 2016 via the official #io16 hashtag. In addition, we’ll be emailing all registered attendees the latest information and check-in instructions prior to the festival.
Throughout the three days of the festival, in-person attendees will be able to participate by attending sessions, getting hands on in the sandbox and codelabs, office hours and more.
If you’re unable to attend Google I/O, you can still be part of the magic. You can watch the live stream of the keynote and many other sessions via I/O Live on our website.
The I/O Live embed widget allows you to deliver I/O highlights and live announcements directly to your audience. If you’re interested in embedding the I/O Live widget on your website, access the configuration tool.
Google I/O Extended events happen around the world and are hosted by local developers during I/O. During these events, organizers may live stream the event and host their own sessions including hackathons, codelabs, demos, etc. If you’re joining us as an I/O Extended host this year, here are the steps you should take to get started:
For questions about the I/O Extended program, contact us at io16extended@google.com.
This page is more than a typical website. It’s a fully-interactive, offline-enabled application. Here are some of the features you should know about:
The window to submit a registration application will open at 9AM PST on March 8, 2016 and remain open until 5PM PST on March 10, 2016, so you’ll have plenty of time to apply. We’ll randomly select applicants from among all of the qualified applications once the window closes on March 10, 2016 and notify those selected via email. The order in which registration applications are received has no bearing on the final outcome.
Here’s what to expect during the registration application window:
General Admission Ticket: $900
Academic Admission Ticket: $300
We offer a limited number of tickets at a discounted rate of $300 for academia. To qualify, you need to be an active full-time student, professor, faculty or staff at a high school or higher education institution. This also includes those who graduated in 2016 prior to the event. When you check in at the festival, you’ll need to provide a current school ID, transcript, credential, or other form of documentation which demonstrates that you are qualified to receive this special rate.
We will be offering a limited number of press passes to qualified members of the media. To submit a request, please fill out this form. If you have additional questions, please email googleiopress@google.com for more information. Please note that we will have a limited number of press passes available and will be vetting requests. Filling out the form doesn’t guarantee you a press pass. Our team will contact you if we are able to accommodate your request. Unfortunately, we have a limited number of press passes, which have already been distributed. If you are a journalist and have questions about Google I/O, please email googleiopress@google.com.
All presentations at Google I/O will be in English. Attendance at all sessions, codelabs and events for Google I/O is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If you’re joining us in person at Shoreline Amphitheatre, here are some useful tips to navigate your way through the conference:
To expedite the check-in process, we will begin badge pick-up on Tuesday, May 17, at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Make sure to bring your photo ID along with your registration confirmation email, as we’ll need to verify it prior to assigning you your Google I/O badge. We’re OK with government issued licenses, passports, and other forms of identification. If you don’t have proper identification, you won’t be able to receive a badge and won’t be admitted into the conference. If you’re an Academic attendee, please remember to bring proof of eligibility.
New this year: Everyone is guaranteed a seat for the keynote but the best seats will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis during badge pick-up beginning at 7am on May 17. So make sure to come by early!
Please note, you may not share, give, or otherwise provide your badge to anyone. Google I/O badges aren’t replaceable, so don’t lose yours or you won’t be readmitted to the conference. You must wear your Google I/O badge to gain admission to Google I/O and to visit the sessions, developer sandbox, and After Hours parties. If requested by security, please display or provide additional identification. Google I/O badges may include your name, company or organization (if provided), and photo.
All registered attendees are invited to the After Hours parties on the evenings of May 18th and May 19th. Festival credentials will be required for entry. Please join us for food, drinks, music, games, and more. Alcoholic beverages will be available for those 21 and over.
Google I/O is a developer event, so please be comfortable and casual. There is no enforced dress code. Please note, the entire festival will be outdoors this year. The Bay Area gets chilly in the evenings, so take this into consideration when planning your attire.
Google strives to make events open and accessible to everyone, regardless of disability or special needs. For event participants with disabilities and/or special needs, please let us know during registration or send an email to io16@google.com. This information will be kept private and will be distributed only to the individuals who need to know it to complete your accommodation request.
Shoreline Amphitheatre is an entirely outdoor venue. While the keynote will be taking place in an open-air amphitheatre, the sessions will take place in enclosed areas. All areas of the venue are accessible for wheelchair users. Additionally, there will be a service dog relief area.
We will provide live real-time transcription (CART) for the keynote and some of our sessions. Caption text displayed on a large screen at the front of the room will be accessible to all attendees. We will also use the text to provide captions for I/O Live and post-event recordings.
We will be happy to provide an ASL interpreter to accompany you in the sessions at Google I/O. We will do our best to find a technical translator that is familiar with the domain, but please keep in mind that the interpreter will probably not be able to meet with the speakers beforehand. Please let us know during registration if you need an ASL interpreter at Google I/O.
ADA parking spaces will be available in Lot D. When arriving to the venue, please follow signs for ADA parking and have your placard hanging from the car mirror and visible to parking employees at all times to expedite the parking process. Accessible parking spaces are readily available on a first-come, first-served basis and may not be reserved in advance to fairly serve all attendees.
If you have other specific needs, please let us know during your registration or send an email to io16@google.com. Otherwise, please approach the Help Desk at Google I/O if you need assistance or have questions about accessibility.

Treat everyone with respect. Participate while acknowledging that everyone deserves to be here — and each of us has the right to enjoy our experience without fear of harassment, discrimination, or condescension, whether blatant or via micro-aggressions. Jokes shouldn’t demean others. Consider what you are saying and how it would feel if it were said to or about you.
Harassment is not tolerated, and you are empowered to politely engage when you or others are disrespected. The person making you feel uncomfortable may not be aware of what they are doing, and politely bringing their behavior to their attention is encouraged.
It’s a theatre improv technique to build on each other’s ideas. We all benefit when we create together.
We have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for harassment of any kind, including but not limited to:

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Our zero tolerance policy means that we will look into and review every allegation of violation of our Event Community Guidelines and Anti-Harassment Policy and respond appropriately. We empower and encourage you to report any behavior that makes you or others feel uncomfortable by finding a Google staff member wearing a light grey, Google I/O 2016 staff shirt or by emailing googleiocommunity@google.com.
Event staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing discomfort or harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.
This policy extends to talks, forums, workshops, codelabs, social media, parties, hallway conversations, all attendees, partners, sponsors, volunteers, event staff, etc. You catch our drift. Google reserves the right to refuse admittance to, or remove any person from, any Google hosted event (including future Google events) at any time in its sole discretion. This includes, but is not limited to, attendees behaving in a disorderly manner or failing to comply with this policy, and the terms and conditions herein. If a participant engages in harassing or uncomfortable behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning or expelling the offender from the conference with no refund.
Smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor smoking areas.
No solicitation or selling of items or services is allowed at Google I/O. Any attendee conducting these activities may be removed from the festival.
Attendees must be at least 15 years of age to attend Google I/O. 15, 16 and 17 year old attendees do not require an adult to accompany them; however, they must provide a signed parental consent form in advance or during on-site check-in. In addition, Google will not offer chaperone tickets for 15, 16 and 17 year old attendees.
We will offer group child care to festival attendees at no charge. Child care will be provided by Corporate Kids. Children aged 0 months through 8 years are eligible. Please note that we have limited availability and may not be able to accommodate all requests.
There will be two mothers’ rooms open on May 18 & 19 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and May 20 from 8:00AM to 4:00 PM. Sign up sheets will be available in front of the mothers’ rooms and usage is first come, first served. Please see the conference help desk for more information.
