Mind the Gap is a global, Google-hosted, Computer Science education outreach program aimed at encouraging middle and high school women to pursue careers in STEM with special emphasis on computer science.

We provide positive role models who demonstrate the social impact of technology and demystify the work and life of a software engineer to give them the confidence they need to pursue computer science.

We have talks by engineers that work on real-life products such as Google Search and Google Maps, office tours, Q&A panel, and introductory programming workshops. All parts of this program are thoughtfully created to make them fun and interactive. At the end of the session, our hope is that the participants feel empowered to consider CS as one of their career paths.

Computer Science is put to use in various fields including music, movies, design, advertisements, and more. Unfortunately, even in today’s world, there are only a handful of women in engineering that can be role models for the next generation, which makes it even more difficult for girls to imagine what possibilities are available for them should they choose to pursue this path.

Mind the Gap program was created and is supported by Google volunteers to bring changes in perception.
